Frequently Asked Questions About Oxygen Services
Q: Why did the doctor order this oxygen for me?
A: Usually, doctors order oxygen for
patients because they have low oxygen levels in their blood and the
doctor is worried that the body is not getting enough oxygen to
function properly. You should speak with your physician about your
specific case and how he thinks the oxygen will help you.
Q: How long will I have to use this oxygen and take these treatments?
A: Oxygen is prescribed for many
diagnoses. Some patients, such as those who have been found to have
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), will require oxygen
for the rest of their lives. Your doctor is the final authority on
how long you will need the therapy.
Q:
I
don’t want to become “addicted” to the oxygen, is that possible?
A:
Oxygen is the life sustaining gas that is in the air we
breathe everyday, and it is not possible to become addicted.
Q:
Is
oxygen dangerous?
A:
When used properly, oxygen is not dangerous. Oxygen is
not flammable, but it does support combustion so it's very important
to keep it away from sparks or open flames. As long as you follow
the safety rules outlined in your set-up manual, your oxygen is
safe.
Q:
If
I need to take a trip will I be able to take my oxygen with me?
A:
AeroCare will be more than happy to assist you with
making arrangements for travel with your oxygen.
Q:
How much will this oxygen cost me?
A:
That depends on your insurance. Medicare covers 80
percent of the Medicare allowable, as long as the oxygen is deemed
medically necessary by your doctor. Insurance companies differ on
the amount of coverage. Your monthly rental cost will be on your
delivery ticket and your local AeroCare office will be more than
happy to discuss the costs with you.
